JOHN WERNER Mary Magdalene Parli, the daughter of Jacob and Anna Marie Beutler Parli, was born July 28, 1886, one mile west of DuBois, Nebraska., and died at the Pawnee County Memorial hospital, September 16, 1967. She was baptized and confirmed at the German evangelical church south of DuBois, March 31, 1901. Oct. 2, 1907 she was united in marriage to John Werner at her home in DuBois. Five children were born to this union: Ethel Halfen, Clarence Werner, and Cecil Amos, all of Baileyville, Kans. Bernice Smith of Missouri Valley, Ia., and Wilmuth Bowhay, San Diego, Calif. Mrs. Werner was a member of the United Brethren church south of Pawnee City until she moved to Pawnee City in 1942, she then transferred her membership to the Methodist Church and was a faithful and loyal member as long as her health permitted. She devoted her life to her family and her church, and her friends, and did many thoughtful deeds of kindness for others. Many children will remember her for the gifts she made for them. Late in June her health began to fail and she gradually grew weaker and finally reached the end of life's journey and was called to her heavenly home for which she was ready. Now she is with her Saviour and the loved ones who have gone before. She is survived by her three daughters and one son, 12 grandchildren. Also, one brother, Walter Parli, Humboldt., and many other relatives and friends. Her husband preceded her in death in 1965. Memorial services were held in the First Methodist Church, Pawnee City, Nebr., with the officiating ministers being the Rev. R. H. Lingard and the Rev. W. N. Wallis. Music was supplied by Mrs. Howard Sautter at the organ, and the singers were Mrs. Byford Metzger and Mrs. Richard Turnbull. The pallbearers were Nathan Allison, Clifford Wissler, Herbert Marteney, Robert Broxterman, Richard Rilinger and Clifford brown. Interment in the Pawnee City cemetery. God loves the aged. He gives them greater vision than the young; He puts the words of wisdom in their tongue. And keeps His presence ever near their side. From dawn to dusk and on through eventide. God helps the aged, With their home His spirit ever dwells: Their mellow hearts are touched like chiming bells. He calms their fears, their worries disappear. Because they know His help is always near. God helps the aged, With hearts of gold and silver-tinted hair, And earnestness and greater faith in prayer He keeps them as a shepherd guards his sheep, Till in the fold they gently fall asleep.
