Laird, in Lexington, Sunday, July 12th, 1908, at 9 pm, at 83 years. The funeral was held Monday afternoon from the Presbyterian Church, conducted by Rev. William R. Laird, D.D. of Danville, Va. The internment was made in the Lexington Cemetery. Mrs. Brown was the daughter of Mr. David Laird, deceased, and was born at "Locust Grove" (Loch-Laird), Rockbridge County, April 6, 1825. Her husband, Daniel Brown, was the son of Mary Moore, captive of Abbs' Valley, and their married life was spent at "Willow Bank" on Hays Creek, adjoining his ancestral home, where he died February 19, 1871. Her mother was Mary Paxton Edmondson. A few years after the death of her husband, Mrs. Brown made her home with her brother, Mr. John E. Laird, first at "Locust Grove" and afterward at Lexington, spending six years of the intervening time with her nephew, Mr. John M. Ross in Knoxville, Tenn. Mrs. Brown was paralyzed seven years ago (July 2, 1901) and she has been an invalid, unable to walk, ever since. She was a consistent member of the Presbyterian Church, and in her life exhibited the highest traits of Christian character, bearing her great affliction with perfect resignation, and without a murmur. A son, her only child, Mr. Daniel E. Brown, who is the traveling representative of the Southern Manufacturing Co. in Texas, was with his mother when she died. A sister also survives, Mrs. Elizabeth J. Ross of Knoxville, Tenn.
