McElroy, entitled, "The Heckarts of Wapello County, Iowa Their Ancestors and Descendents": "All records found refer to her as Mary M Moyer. It is believed that her middle name was Martha, as she had a grand-daughter named Mary Martha Heckart. Bio: Mrs. Mary Moyer Heckart was born in Northumberland County, Penn. on April 7, 1828. It is believed that her middle name was Martha, as she had a grand-daughter named Mary Martha Heckart. Bio: Mrs. Mary Moyer Heckart was born in Northumberland County, Penn. on April 7, 1828. The family removed to near Sandusky City, Ohio, in 1830, and in 1837 to Monroe Co., Mo. Two years after her marriage (6 Apr 1848) she came with her husband to Wapello County, Iowa, where she found home and friends and opportunities to the close of a busy, useful life. She died of pulmonary disease Mar 14, 1883, at the age of 55 years. She was the mother of ten children; a good wife, a good mother, a good friend, and a woman of more than ordinary energy and decision. She looked well to the ways of her household, and was the dispencer of a wide hospitality -- all the wider because of her tidiness, and the skill in meeting the wants and pleasing the palates of friendly guests. Her final illness was painful and protracted but she was sustained by Christian faith and hope. The 71st Psalm was a favorite with her. Her funeral was largely attended -- conducted by her old pastor who writes these line (Rev J. M. McElroy) and who then resided in Batavia."
