Obituary Mary Bean Curtis Obituary - Memphis Reville - Memphis, Missouri - February 4, 1909 (used with permission) Mary Bean was born November 17, 1845, at Granville, Licking County, Ohio, where she grew to womanhood. In 1868 she came to Missouri where she has resided nearly all the time since. In 1869 she was married to Thomas Curtis and became the mother of two sons, Homer B. of Kansas City and Joel A. of Memphis. She was again married September 12, 1876, to William H. Hyde. At the time of their marriage Mr. Hyde had seven small children. She became in the truest sense a mother to them and cared for them with all a mother's devotion, making no distinction between the children that were her own and those that were her husband's by a former marriage. It was her privilege to live to see all these children grow up, marry and have families of their own. She possessed unusual strength and led a very active life. She was able to provide for her family and minister to them as few mothers can do. She was recognized by those that knew her as an earnest and faithful Christian. Many years ago she united with the Methodist Episcopal Church, but later joined the Methodist Protestant Church of which she was a member at the time of her death. A few weeks ago she was taken with pneumonia, which finally resulted in her death, Sunday morning, January 24. She realized that she could not recover and was ready to go. She gave minute directions as to the preparations for her burial and was able to speak words of farewell to her friends. Besides the members of her family already mentioned she is survived by one brother, Dr. Homer Bean, who lives near Granville, Ohio. Funeral services were held at the church at Brock, Tuesday, at 11 o'clock, Rev. E. J. Gale officiating. The six stepsons of the deceased were the pallbearers. The large attendance at the funeral was an indication of the high esteem in which Mrs. Hyde was held.
