The people of the entire county as well as those of Lewellen and vicinity were called upon to mourn in the death of Mrs. Ira Paisley last week, the loss of one of the early settlers and a prominent figure in the growth and well-being of the community. Always a good and considerate neighbor and a friend to all, her taking away was a bereavement to every acquaintance and her immediate relatives will feel their loss but little less than felt by all her neighbors and friends. Mary M. Wilson was born at Morning Sun, Iowa, December 2, 1856, and her girlhood and early womanhood was spent in that state. On September 20, 1875, she was united in marriage to Ira Paisley, the ceremony occurring at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John M. Wilson. To this union eleven children were born, Mrs. Eva White, of Lewellen; Mrs. Cora Clark, of Oshkosh; Mrs. Clara Sellers, of Ashton, Idaho; John M. Paisley of Joliet, Wyo.; Mrs. Pearl Robinson and Mrs. Irene Roberts, both of Lewellen; Mrs. Myrtle Robinson, of Joliet, Wyo.; Harry Paisley, of Joliet, Wyo. and Ira Paisley of Lewellen. Mary and Finley both preceded the mother to the better world. Early in life she joined the United Presbyterian church and her faithful work within the church and out of it proved a lesson and a help to her brothers and sisters in the faith. Patient and motherly to others she gave them all encouragement and strength to conquer life's battles in true Christian spirit. For about a year, Mrs. Paisley has been a sufferer, and though all was done that Medical skill and that loving and willing hands could accomplish for her relief, she continued ill but patient and loving to the end. Death finally relieved her suffering, the end coming at four o'clock Thursday morning, April 20, 1922. She being 65 years, 4 months and 11 days old at the time of her death. Her earthly remains were laid tenderly to rest in the family plot in the Ash Hollow cemetery, Friday afternoon funeral services being held from the Methodist church, Rev. Edward Magill conducting the services. In comforting words to the living he called attention to the wonderful life of the one departed, and to the lessons her daily conduct while yet among us, should bring to us all, the last sad rites made a deep and lasting impression upon those gathered to pay last earthly respects to the departed loved one. Besides a sorrowing husband and nine children yet living, there remain to mourn her demise, two sisters, Adaline Wilson, Sterling, Kansas, and Margaret Wilson, Concordia Kansas; also 21 grand children and two great grandchildren. With these sorrowing relatives every acquaintance join.
