Description	:	Mary Geffre Johnson, 78, of Vermillion died Thursday, November 1 at the Sanford Vermillion care Center. Mary Mockler was born December 26, 1928 to Albert and Margaret (Mulhenkort) Mockler on the family farm near Burbank, SD. She attended Bruyer Country School, and Vermillion High School, and started teaching in a one room school house in 1946 in the Clay and Union county areas. After 18 years in the country schools, she then taught for 2 years at Austin School in Vermillion, and then for 28 years at the Vermillion Middle School. Mary Mockler was born December 26, 1928 to Albert and Margaret (Mulhenkort) Mockler on the family farm near Burbank, SD. She attended Bruyer Country School, and Vermillion High School, and started teaching in a one room school house in 1946 in the Clay and Union county areas. After 18 years in the country schools, she then taught for 2 years at Austin School in Vermillion, and then for 28 years at the Vermillion Middle School. While teaching, Mary completed her Masters degree from the University of South Dakota, and after retirement, she remained very active in Delta Kappa Gamma and the Retired Teachers Association and the Eagles Auxiliary. Mary was a member of St. Agnes Parish and Altar Society, the Catholic Daughters of America, and held various offices within these organizations. She was also active in Various Community affairs and was a longtime ESA member. Mary was united in marriage to Ed Geffre on July 8, 1947, and Ed passed away in 1976. Mary Geffre was then united in marriage to Phil Johnson on October 8, 1978, Phil passed away in 1989. Mary is survived by her 2 brothers; Walter Mockler of Burbank, Arnold (Virginia) Mockler of Vermillion, and 3 sisters-in-law; Mary Agnes Mockler of Burbank, Lucy Hartman of Askos, MN and Elsie Geffre of Aberdeen, SD, and 3 brothers-in-law; Don Geffre of Kimball, SD, Tom Geffre of Maple Plain, MN and Wendelin Geffre of Aberdeen. Mary is also survived by 3 step children; Phillip "Skip" (Elaine) Johnson, Paula (Tony) Nelson, and Dale (Lisa) Johnson all of Vermillion, 6 step grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, and a special friend Dennis Kotschevar of Aberdeen. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, an infant son Edward Geffre Jr., 3 brothers; Gene, Charles and Richard, a sister-in-law Norma Jean Mockler, and a step son Douglas Johnson. Funeral Mass will be 11:00 am Monday November 5 at the St. Agnes Catholic Church in Vermillion with burial to follow in the Calvary Cemetery in Vermillion. Visitation will begin at 5:00 pm Sunday November 4 with a rosary at 7:00 pm and a Prayer Service at 7:30 pm all at the Church.
