Riggin, one of Crisfield's oldest and most lovable matrons, died in the McCready Hospital here Tuesday evening, where she had been a patient since she fell and broke her hip December 19th of last year. She was the widow of the late Elisha T. Riggin and the daughter of the late Nicholas Somers and Mary Miles Somers, and a descendant of some of the pioneer families of old Somerset county. Mrs. Riggin would have been 91 years of age in April, having been born April 18th. 1858. Until last December, when she was injured by a fall, she had been active, although she had to use a cane to help her in walking. Living in Crisfield all her life, she was connected by birth and marriage to several of the city's most prominent families. A woman of splendid presence and personality, she had devoted her long life principally to her home and to church work. She had long been a member of Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church and actively participated in it's affairs as long as her health permitted. In her home she was an ideal wife and mother, courteous and pleasant to visitors, loving and devoted to husband and children. Interesting to talk with and a good listener, her conversation showed that she was observant of affairs and intelligent in interpreting them. She had a wide circle of friends, old and young, who held her in great esteem. A good woman, full of years, living to see her children grown and married, she was blessed with the presence of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and even great-great-grandchildren, who helped make her life pleasant and of whom she was duly proud. Her passing has caused profound sorrow in the community. Funeral services will be held in the Covington Funeral Home on Main street at 2:30 o'clock this Friday, afternoon, conducted by the pastor of her church, Rev. E.L. Bennett, assisted. by Rev. Melvin F. Wheatley, pastor of Immanuel Methodist church and Rev. F.E. Garland, pastor of the Baptist Temple. Interment will be in the family lot in Crisfield cemetery. Bearers will be eight of her grandsons: Richard F. Jones, W. Edwin Riggin Jr., Nathaniel B. Riggin, Roy Riggin, Henry Riggin, Horace F. Rggin Jr., Nicholas S. Riggin, Jr. and George N. Riggin. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Frank Jones, Mrs. M. Brevoort Thawley and Miss Blanche Riggin, all of Crisfield, and four sons, Horace Riggin of Baltimere, Gordon E. Riggin and W. Edwin Riggin of Crisfield, and Nicholas S. Riggin of New Castle, Del. Twelve grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and four great-great- grandchildren also survive.
