JOHN FERREN DEAD Mrs. John Ferren, a resident of Lyon County for the past forty-seven years, died this morning at 8:15 o'clock at her home, 8 Commercial street, of a complication of pneumonia and typhoid fever. She had been sick at times for the past ten years, but was taken sick with a pneumonia complication Monday, and death resulted this morning. Mary Rachael Rumford was born in Marion County, Ind., October 7, 1844. In 1865, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Rumford, moved to Lyon County, and settled on a farm near Rock Creek, eighteen miles southwest of Emporia, where they lived for many years. Mr. Rumford died about twelve years ago. After moving to Emporia, Miss Rumford lived at the Emporia Hotel for a time, and met John Ferren. In 1862, Mr. Ferren enlisted in the Eleventh Kansas Cavalry and served throughout the Civil War. He returned to Emporia at the close of the war, and was married to Miss Rumford, January g [sic], 1868. February 2, 1894, they moved to Emporia where they lived until the time of her death. Two months ago they moved to No. 8 Commercial Street. Mrs. Ferren was a member of the First Christian Church, in Indiana, but never joined the Emporia church, although she attended regularly. She was loved by her neighbors, and had many friends in all parts of Lyon County. She was loving and kind to her children. She is survived by her husband, two sisters, Mrs. Hannah Alexander, and Mrs. Eliza Pope, both of Emporia; two brothers, Morgan H. Rumford, and James Rumford, of Emporia; and five children, Horace Ferren, William Ferren, of Emporia; Joseph F. Ferren, of Sacramento, Calif.; Miss Florence Milner, of Virgil; and Mrs. Hester Macke, of Pittsburg. The funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Free Methodist Church, and interment will be made in Maplewood Cemetery. The services will be conducted by the Rev. C. H. Jerome of the Free Methodist Church.
