HILL Former Postmistress of Weston Passed Away at Redmond, Ore., November 19, 1924. BURIED AT WESTON, NEBR. Mary Virginia Hill was born July 22, 1848 in Frisco, Indiana. She was the daughter of Capt. William and Nancy Davis and was one of eleven children of whom two brothers Joseph N. and John W. Davis of Portland, Ore., and two sisters Mrs. Pearl Folsom of Ashland and Mrs. Cora Odell of Weston are left to mourn her loss. The Davis family came from a long line of Colonial Ancestry and were among the earliest pioneer families of Saunders county. The father and mother and the eleven children and their families removed from Indiana to this county at an early date, most of them living here for many years. The deceased was married to William Edwin Hill of Fort Wayne, Ind., on January 1, 1869 and moved to this state. Five children were born of this union, William Marshall dying in childhood, the rest being with her during her last sickness. The deceased resided at Weston for many years and at one time served as postmistress here in the early days of this village. She had the care and responsibility of rearing her family alone as her husband died in the prime of life. The children who mourn her loss are Wilbur L. Hill of Live Oak, California; Walter E. Hill of Corona, California; Mrs. Isabelle Youngstrom, of Culver, Ore.; and Miss Jessie L. Hill of Redmond, Ore., and in addition there are nine grandchildren and one great grandson, besides a host of other relatives. She was first taken ill Sept. 6 of this year with a serious heart attack from which she had partially recovered having been up and around the house for about three weeks when she received a stroke Nov. 11th contributing to her death Nov. 19th, 1924. She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, joining in early youth and was a charter member of the local M. E. Church. Her faith had been a support to her in her cares through life. Her death was very peaceful and she was conscious until a few hours of death, often speaking, with calmness and assurance, of going to her Father and Redeemer. Loving hands administered to her wants during this illness. A beautiful service was held for her in the Methodist Episcopal Church of Redmond, Ore., before her son Walter, left with the remains for Weston, Nebr., where she desired to be laid to rest by her husband and son in the family burying lot. Services conducted by Rev. C. J. Johnson, were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Presbyterian Church, formerly the Methodist Church of which she was a charter member. The services were largely attended by her many friends here. The remains were laid to rest in the Weston cemetery. Those from out of town who attended the funeral were: Walter E. Hill of Corona, California, Mrs. Belle Mead and son Charles, of Omaha; Mr. L. Mead of Ashland; E. Miller, of Long Pine; Lester Jaco, Ewing; Will Mauck of Omaha; Mrs. Joe Kriz and son and Mrs. Lizie Henderson, of Broken Bow; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Daughtery of David City, Alfred Odell and Ben Bowen of Lincoln.
