They preceded her in death. She married Jean W. Coleman Dec. 22, 1940, in Newton, Kansas. He died May 5, 2009. Mary Virginia was a graduate of The University of Kansas and taught vocal music in the Moundridge, Halstead and Newton public school systems. She was a member of First United Presbyterian Church as well as choir director, member of the board of directors of the Newton Community Theatre, and a member of the Treble Clef Club and Chapter EQ P.E.O. in Newton. She was on the board of directors and actively involved in the Newton Community Theatre for a number of years. She was a well-known and sought-after piano accompanist, vocal arranger, and choral director. Many weekends, Virginia, husband Jean, Dr. Robert Myers, William C. Getz, and Paul L. Kliewer, entertained as the renowned Keynoters Quartet throughout the mid-states region in the 1940's through the 1960's. At the age of 52, Virginia earned her private pilot's license. She and Jean owned a Cessna Skylane and flew it on trips throughout the country. Virginia's survivors include: a son, Jon Walker Coleman, and wife Linda of Noblesville, Ind.; a daughter, Virginia Jean (Gini) Johnson, and husband Delbert of Newton; a brother, Mahlon Roy Stauffer, Jr., of Wichita, Kansas; a grandson, Matthew J. Coleman of Noblesville, Ind.; two granddaughters, Amanda Johnson Bradley and husband Scott of San Francisco and Eliza Johnson Rausch and husband Christopher of Newton; three great-grandsons, Connell Christopher Axel Rausch and Brennen Alexander Marshall Rausch of Newton, and Nathaniel Phillip Bradley of San Francisco; and a great-granddaughter, Emma Holland Bradley of San Francisco. A memorial service was held at First United Presbyterian Church with the Rev. James Anderson officiating. A private family burial followed the memorial service. Memorials have been established with the Jean and Virginia Coleman Music Scholarship at Newton High School to benefit outstanding music students.
