Description	:	Matilda Josephine Johnson was born in Sweden in the year 1840, the 4th day of April, and died May 23, 1917, being seventy-seven years, one month and nineteen days old at the time of her death. She was confirmed and united with the Swedish Lutheran church in 1855, and when they moved to Fairmont about ten years ago, she united with the Methodist church. She was married in 1860 to Charles E. Read More	Matilda Josephine Johnson was born in Sweden in the year 1840, the 4th day of April, and died May 23, 1917, being seventy-seven years, one month and nineteen days old at the time of her death. She was confirmed and united with the Swedish Lutheran church in 1855, and when they moved to Fairmont about ten years ago, she united with the Methodist church. She was married in 1860 to Charles E. Peterson. Of this marriage six children were born, of whom five survive, one having died in 1876. The living are: Oscar C. Peterson of York, Nebraska; Albert G. of Lebanon, Nebraska; Frank E., of Fairmont Mrs. Emma S. Smith and Mrs. Selma C. Bender of Blake, Nebraska. The husband died February 21, 1909, at their home in Fairmont. At the time of Mrs. Peterson's death, she was making her home with Mrs. Emma Smith at Blake. In 1866 the family moved from Iowa to a homestead in Nebraska, about five miles northeast of Fairmont, where they lived until about ten years ago, when they moved to Fairmont. Mrs. Peterson had been in poor health for years. She died from a paralytic stroke, but with her good Christian life and thought of her children, she unfalteringly approached death, and with unwavering faith, when the summons came, she was ready. The funeral was held in the Methodist church Saturday at 2:30 p.m., in charge of Rev. J.P. Yost, assisted by Rev. John Gallagher. The relatives present from abroad were Mr. and Mrs. Jonas Clarine of Oxford, Nebraska, Miss Eva Peterson and Clifford Halberg of Ottumwa, Iowa, and August Peterson of Kansas City.
