Description	:	Gust Albert Peterson, son of Charles and Matilda Peterson began life on earth at Ottumwa, Iowa, on November 24, 1870, being 77 years, 5 months and 29 days old when he departed this earthly life on May 23, 1948. Read More	Gust Albert Peterson, son of Charles and Matilda Peterson began life on earth at Ottumwa, Iowa, on November 24, 1870, being 77 years, 5 months and 29 days old when he departed this earthly life on May 23, 1948. The family moved to Fairmont in the spring of 1870, and located on a farm five mile north of town. Here he grew to manhood, attending the district school. Many changes took place to the country during the course of his life. The railroads developed and came through; the fencing of the vast prairies; modern machines and conveniences. His family found a raw open country and he left it improved and developed. He united in marriage with Flora B. Frances on December 27, 1894. Rev. A.A. Randall, then pastor of the Methodist church, and a friend of some standing officiated. They established their home on a farm for a time. Later he established a merchantile business, continuing this until ill health forced him to take life easy. Early in life he united with the United Brethren church, later he transferred his membership to the Grace Methodist church, where his membership remained throughout the remainder of his life. He loved his Lord and enjoyed church. His regret was that he could not attend lately as he would like. He missed its inspiration and Christian fellowship. He leaves to mourn his passing, his widow, Flora B.; five nieces, Miss Frances Smith of Burwell, Mrs. Vera Dittmar of Sargent, Mrs. Doris Gras of St. Paul, Minn., Mrs. Lucille Barkemeir of Exeter, Mrs. Gladys Murrell of Fairmont; two nephews, Nolan Smith of Burwell, and Wayne Peterson of Long Beach, California; ten great-nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Albert was always cheerful and kind. He loved to make a joke of what seemed a difficult circumstance. He enjoyed his friends and was very happy when they came in to visit. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, May 27, at the Grace Methodist church, Rev. L.A. Fishel and Rev. J.J. Tauzar officiating. Music was furnished by a male quartet, consisting of Oliver Moul, Rev. LA.A Fishel, John Fishel and Jerold Fishel, with Mrs. A.A. Ashby at the organ. Rev. J.J. Tauzar sang a solo, "We Say Goodnight Here, but Good Morning Over There." Interment was in the family plot in the Fairmont cemetery. Pallbearers were nephews of Mr. Peterson: L.F. Barkmeier, C.W.
