Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Matthew Ross and Edith Cooke Beebe; his brother, George Beebe; his sister, Carol Clark; his first wife, Louise Barger; and second wife, Anne Holmes. Those left to cherish his memory are Matthew R. Beebe Jr. and Ann, of Parma, Idaho, W. Scott Beebe Sr. and Sonja, of Glasgow, Va., David Cooke Beebe, of Walkers Creek, Va., Martha Louise Beebe, of Los Lunas, N.M., and Jane B. Garrett and William, of Buena Vista, Va.; grandchildren, Margaret, Scott Jr., Sara, Ross, Matthew, Joey and Annie; great-grandchildren, Max, Jessica, Simora and Maeleigh; stepchildren, Janice Davis and Henry Holmes; stepgrandchildren, Will, Emily, Caroline and Patrick; and devoted caregivers, Nita Moore, Jo Anne Clements and Joseph Henson. Roger was born June 5, 1914, in Minneapolis, Minn. He graduated from Washington & Lee High School in Arlington, Va., attended VMI and graduated in 1938 second in his class with a degree in civil engineering. He served with the United States Army Third Calvary and in 1942 was one of the first to serve as Secret Service protection for President Roosevelt at the White House. He was engaged in the European Theater and landed in Normandy D+6. He was discharged from military service as a Lt. Colonel. In later years he worked with his father-in-law, C.W. Barger Sr., and brother-in-law, C.W. Barger Jr., building many roads, bridges and buildings in southwest Virginia. He was a member of That Club, Kiwanis Club, R.E. Lee Episcopal Church Vestry, Rockbridge Symphony Orchestra, member of Tau Beta Pi and played stand-up bass with the Joe Lynn Quartet. A celebration of Roger's life will be held 2 p.m. on Friday, March 20, 2009, at R.E. Lee Episcopal Church in Lexington and interment at Stonewall Jackson Cemetery.
