Description	:	Highland Recorder March 2, 1945 Mrs. Mattie A. Simmons, age 71, daughter of the late Henry and Elizabeth Calhoun Mullenax, died in St. Josephs Hospital Baltimore, Feb. 23rd. The deceased had been in poor health for a number of years and during November of last year went to Baltimore to spend the winter with her daughter, Mrs. Carl W. Hull. Surviving are the husband, M. The deceased had been in poor health for a number of years and during November of last year went to Baltimore to spend the winter with her daughter, Mrs. Carl W. Hull. Surviving are the husband, M. K. Simmons, two sons, Clarence and Luther of Crabbottom, four daughters, Mrs. P. L. Mauzy and Mrs. K G. Fritts of Lexington, N.C., one sister Mrs. S. H. Ralston, of Staunton, four brothers, H. W. and A. C. of Crabbottom, Kenton and Abram of Gambrills, Md., one half brother E. B. Wimer of Crabbottom. Sixteen grand and 16 great-grandchildren. Three grandsons are with the armed forces, James Mauzy in Italy, Eugene Rexrode in France and Luther Simmons Jr. (Jack) in England. Mrs. Simmons joined the Methodist Church in early life and was loyal in attendance while her health permitted. For the past several years she was enrolled in the home department of Central Sunday School. The funeral services, which were very impressive, were conducted at Central Church Sunday February 25th, at 2 o’clock by the Rev. L. P. Foley of the Monterey Methodist Church, assisted by the Rev. A. E. Johnson of the Monterey Presbyterian group of churches.
