MATTIE STOEL Hold Rites Wednesday For A Long-Time Akron Resident Mrs. Mattie Stoel, who had resided in Akron more than 60 years, passed away Sunday, August 10, 1952, in a nursing home at Hawarden, where she had been a patient for several months. She had attained the age of 86 years in March and had been in failing health for some time. Mrs. Stoel, who was born, at Kalona, Iowa, March 16, 1866. She was the last surviving widow of a Civil War veteran in Akron. Her husband, Oscar A. Stoel, preceded her in death several years ago. Mrs. Stoel was one of the early members of Vesper Chapter, No. 61, Order of Eastern Star. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. George Thomas, of Slow City; two sons, Jay of Mojave, Calif. and Paul, of Akron, and, two grandchildren. Preceding her in death were a son, Nathan, and a daughter, Nellie. Mrs. Stoel was revered by many friends for her fine womanly qualities. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Rossow funeral Home, Rev. Dan J, Peterson officiating, Interment was in Riverside Cemetery, where the burial rites of the Eastern Star were exemplified.
