EMBREE DIES AT GRANT Resides in That Community Nearly Forty-Five Years Passes Away Monday Afternoon, May 19, 1919 One of the largest funerals ever held at Grant occurred Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 at the Baptist Church there when friends and neighbors gathered to pay their last tribute of respect to Mrs. H. A. Embree, who passed away Monday afternoon. The remains were interred in the Grant Cemetery. Services were conducted by Rev. W. E. Overturf of Bloomfield, Iowa. Mattie Marcella Stinemates were born December 27, 1874, about four miles northeast of Grant and he spent her entire life in that community. September 25, 1895, she was united in marriage to Albert H. Embree of Grant and they spent practically their whole married life on the farm where the family now lives. To them were born six children, Mrs. Alice Lee of Mr. Etna; Guy, Leslie, and Clifford at home; Mrs. Grace Corbin of Grant, and an infant daughter, Ruth, preceded her mother in death. Mrs. Embree’s first years of Christian life were spent in the United Brethren Church at Housler, but later she transferred her membership to the Baptist Church at Grant where she took an active part in church affairs. She will be remembered by her relatives and friends as a Christian of the truest type, a devoted wife and a loving and patient mother. She leaves to mourn their loss the husband and children; one grandchild; her father, L. D. Stinemates; two brothers, George and Arthur Stinemates, and friends who were limited only to those who knew her. Villisca Review, Thursday, May 23, 1919, page 1
