Eldon Haworth officiating at the 2 p.m. services. Mrs. Francis Gray, soloist was accompanied by Mrs. Anabelle White as she sang, “In the Sweet Bye and Bye” and “Rock of Ages”. Pall bearers were Darwin Williams, Jerry Williams, Douglas McFarland, Dennis Kulin, Ray Nelson, and Kenneth Cartwright. Flower bearers were Julia Ann Williams and Linda McFarland. Maude Eleanor Stain, youngest child of Henry Nelson and Caroline Anna Nelson was born September 2, 1889 in Page County, Iowa. She departed this life in the Gentry Convalescent Hospital in Antioch, California, December 24, 1973 at the age of 84 years, 3 months, 22 days. She was the last member of the Henry Nelson family. She grew to young womanhood in the Villisca community. On February 9, 1910 she was united in marriage to Leonard Strain and they farmed northeast of Villisca. To this union two children were born, Donald of Pittsburg, California and Dorothy Williams of Villisca. In 1941 Mr. Strain sold farming interests and they moved to Pittsburg, California. After Mr. Strain’s death in April 1960, she remained with her son. A few months ago, because of ill health, she became a resident of the Gentry Convalescent Hospital in Antioch. Her survivors, in addition to her children, are a son-in-law, Brock Williams, two grandsons, Darwin Williams and wife Julia Ann of Clearfield, Iowa and Jerry Williams of Red Oak, a granddaughter, Linda McFarland and husband Douglas of Sidney, Iowa and three great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Dora Strain of Villisca and nieces and nephews.
