She married Howard Thomas on March 10, 1890 in Scranton, IA. they were the parents of Edith Faye, Roy W, Pearl H, Hazel Laura, Corven L, Una Mae, Erma Ethel, Goldie Estella, Thelma, and Orla Clarence. Having lost her mother at age 9, she was raised by her older sisters, and in turn helped raise those siblings younger than she. Of an original 15 children, she was #12 in birth order. She was the 8th child of a family of 13 children. Her greatest joy in life had always been her family, both her own and her brothers' and sisters'. Her mother died when she was 17 and she helped care for her brothers and sisters. At an early age she gave herself to Christ and was a life long and faithful member of the Methodist church. On March 10, 1890, she was united in marriage to Howard C. Thomas at Scranton. They were the parents of 11 children, 9 of whom survive: Roy of Jefferson, Hazel Blum of Odebolt, Pearle of West Des Moines, Corven of Scranton, Una Mae Blum of Scranton, and Orla of Scranton. One son died in infancy and her daughter, Mrs. Edith Nair, passed away in 1938. She was also preceded in death by four brothers. For many years the family lived in the Providence community and attended church there. One of the proudest moments in the lives of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas was one Sunday in 1937 when they attended church services at Providence in the company of all 10 children. On March 10, 1940, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. He passed away later that year. She leaves to mourn her loss 9 children, 33 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren, fourteen grandsons are in the service of their country. Also surviving are four sisters: Mrs. Mary Young, Aberdeen, S.D.; Mrs. Ivy Harding, Dickenson, N.D.; Mrs. Alice Reed, New England, N.D.; Mrs. Verna Titus, Letcher, S.D.; also three brothers: Osiso 0sburn Bishop, Churdan; Kelly Bishop, Cresbard, S.D.; Kenneth Bishop, Onaka, S.D., and a host of other relatives and friends. The funeral service was held in the Methodist church in Scranton Sunday, April 8 at 2:30. The pastor, Edward I. Stone, conducted the service. He was assisted by Mrs. B.E. Friend, organist, and Mrs. R.E. Parry and Ada Fay Morlan, who sang "No Night There" "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "Asleep in Jesus." Casket bearers were Merlin Nair, Clyde Thomas, Paul Clark, William Johnston. Lyle Blum, Emmet Dublinske. Interment was made in Willow township cemetery. Those from out of the state who attended the funeral were Kenneth Bishop, Onaka , S.D., and Mr. and Mrs. Kelly Bishop, Cresbard, S.D. A brother, Oslo Osburn Bishop of Churdan, and cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Seyton of Ralston, and all nine children were present, as well as many other relatives and friends from out of town.
