Selections were "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," "No Night There," and "Asleep in Jesus." Pallbearers were Morris Blum, Merlin Nair, Kenneth Thomas, Clifford Blum, Verle Nair, and Clyde Thomas. Howard Clarence, son of John and Mary Thomas, was born April 22, 1870, in Clinton county, Iowa, and died at his home in Scranton, Iowa, November 12, 1940 at the age of 70 years, 6 months and 20 days. He was united in marriage to Miss Maude E. Bishop at Scranton, Iowa, on March 10, 1890. To this union were born ten children, Roy W. Thomas, of Jefferson; Pearl H. Thomas, Scranton; Mrs. Hazel Laura Blum, Odebolt; Corven L. Thomas, Scranton; Mrs. Una Mae Blum, Laurel; Mrs. Erma Ethel Ballard, Ankeny; Mrs. Goldie Estella Clark, Glidden; Mrs. Thelma Robson, Scranton; Orla Clarence Thomas, Scranton. One daughter, Mrs. Edith Faye Nair preceded her father in death. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas lived on farms around Scranton until 1932 when they moved to Scranton, and here they have since resided. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last March 10. Mr. Thomas united with the United Brethren church when he was 19 years old and continued a member of the same until 1916 when he united with the Scranton Methodist church. The deceased is survived by his widow, nine children, 33 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, also two sisters, Mrs. Betty Bishop and Lydia Bishop of Churdan, Iowa, and many other relatives.
