Description	:	Maude Pearl (Griffin) Crouch was born September 26, 1901, in a small unincorporated farming community called Hollis, located in Lawrence Township, Cloud County, Kansas. Family records suggest she was born in her maternal grandfather’s farm home. Maude was the third of five children born to John Ewing Griffin and Catherine Elmina (Sewart) Griffin. Read More	Maude Pearl (Griffin) Crouch was born September 26, 1901, in a small unincorporated farming community called Hollis, located in Lawrence Township, Cloud County, Kansas. Family records suggest she was born in her maternal grandfather’s farm home. Maude was the third of five children born to John Ewing Griffin and Catherine Elmina (Sewart) Griffin. She lived her childhood years in both Hollis and Concordia with siblings Wilma Ruby Griffin, Rovesta Elizabeth Griffin, and Wilber Sewart Griffin. In 1910, the Griffin family moved to Miltonvale, Kansas. A news article in the Concordia Blade, dated March 2, 1910, indicates Maude’s mother and aunt announced the news of the move to their daughters (ages 12, 11, and 9) by hosting a party for eighteen neighborhood girls in their home. They had music and a peanut hunt. Catherine served a three-course luncheon and souvenirs were exchanged to wish the Griffin girls well in their new home in Miltonvale. Maude's parents were devout Christians who practiced their faith in the traditions of the Weslyan Holiness movement. She and her siblings regularly attended Wesleyan Methodist church services and were taught lifestyle practices in keeping with Godly living. Maude adopted a personal faith in Christ. She eventually became a member of the Church of the Nazarene. On June 27, 1923, Maude was united in marriage with Clarence Irwin Crouch, son of Irvin Herburt and Jennie A. Crouch, in Miltonvale. Maude and Clarence were the proud parents of two children: • Clarene Elmina (Crouch) Rogers (6/23/1926 - 8/28/2018) • LaVon Elaine (Crouch) Crafton/Stallings (8/8/1931 - 5/29/1989) Maude and Clarence lived in Abilene for several years where Clarence developed a reputation as an honest auto mechanic. The Crouch family eventually moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming where they lived near Maude's sister, Wilma for several years. Clarence eventually applied his mechanic skills at United Airlines - a career that moved the Crouch family to San Francisco, Portland, and eventually Vancouver in 1968. Maude taught Sunday School and was an active member of the Central Church of the Nazarene in Vancouver, Washington. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, and volunteer work at the Vancouver Hospital Auxillary. Clarence passed away on January 6, 1976, in Vancouver, Clark County, Washington at the age of 75. He was laid to rest in Park Hill Cemetery in Vancouver, Clark County, Washington. Maude passed away on April 2, 1999, in Vancouver, Clark County, Washington at the age of 97. She was laid to rest in Park Hill Cemetery with Clarence.
