Description	:	Maurice "Morrie" Johnson, 85, of Ord, formerly of Scotia, died Saturday, March 10, 2012, at Valley View Living Center in Ord. Morrie was born March 25, 1926, at Horace to Warren and Nellie (Mitchell) Johnson. Morrie was raised at Horace, attended school there and graduated from Scotia High School. Morrie married Corrine Jeffres Feb. 23, 1945, at Scotia. They lived at Scotia until 1954, when they moved to Oregon, where he worked as a logger and also a dairy hand. Read More	Maurice "Morrie" Johnson, 85, of Ord, formerly of Scotia, died Saturday, March 10, 2012, at Valley View Living Center in Ord. Morrie was born March 25, 1926, at Horace to Warren and Nellie (Mitchell) Johnson. Morrie was raised at Horace, attended school there and graduated from Scotia High School. Morrie married Corrine Jeffres Feb. 23, 1945, at Scotia. They lived at Scotia until 1954, when they moved to Oregon, where he worked as a logger and also a dairy hand. In 1969, Morrie moved back to Scotia, bought some land just on the south edge of Scotia and started a dairy farm. On Jan. 23, 1974, he was married to Ruth Stevens at St. Paul. They continued to operate the dairy farm and also purchased the Happy Jack Tavern, which they ran for seven years. Morrie had also served as the bus supervisor for the North Loup Public Schools. Ruth and Morrie moved to Ord in 2005 and in 2008 he became a resident of the Valley View Living Center. Morrie enjoyed playing and coaching baseball, playing cards, bowling, singing and dancing. Morrie was preceded in death by: parents; infant son, Dennis Johnson; an infant sibling and brothers, Lyle, Russell, Harold and Claude Johnson; and sisters, Pearl Dennis, Grace Warden and Agnes Williams. Survivors are: wife, Ruth Johnson of Ord; sons, Bradley Johnson of Rapid City, S.D., Terry Johnson and his friend, Kathy, of Packwood, Wash., Douglas Johnson and his wife, Kim, of Eureka, Nev., Chip Stevens of San Marcos, Texas, Kevin Stevens and his wife, Jeanie, of St. Paul; daughters, Tammy Bottolfson and her husband, Bill, of Grand Island and Stephanie Veskerna and her husband, Rod, of Ord; sisters, Ethel Mae Hanson of Beaverton, Ore., Helen Lombard of Salem, Ore., and Phyllis Freeman of Scotia; 28 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Burial was in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Scotia, NE. Published in The Grand Island Independent on March 11, 2012
