Description	:	Maurine Hinks Maurine was born June 25, 1915, at Gettysburg, SD, to John and Emma (Merganthaler) Hembd. She graduated from Gettysburg High School. She married Leslie Hinks on March 5, 1934, in Hastings, MN. The couple made their home in St. Paul, MN, where Maurine assisted her husband with his photography business. Read More	Maurine Hinks Maurine was born June 25, 1915, at Gettysburg, SD, to John and Emma (Merganthaler) Hembd. She graduated from Gettysburg High School. She married Leslie Hinks on March 5, 1934, in Hastings, MN. The couple made their home in St. Paul, MN, where Maurine assisted her husband with his photography business. In 1950, the family moved to Siren, WI., where the couple owned and operated a retail grocery and merchandise business. Talented and gifted in music, Maurine became active in children's music programs in schools and churches. She also taught organ and piano lessons. Following the couple's retirement in 1970, they moved to Sanibel Island, Florida, where for 15 years, she worked for the Chamber of Commerce. Leslie preceded her in death on February 22, 1972. She moved to Sioux Falls in 1989. Maurine was a past member of the Lutheran Church in Siren, WI, where she was choir and music director for a number of years. In her free time, she enjoyed painting, reading, sea shelling. Those who remember Maurine best will fondly recall her energetic personality and love for life. She thoroughly enjoyed social events and family gatherings; particularly if music was involved. A true ‘night-owl', she cherished late evenings playing piano with family and friends. Grateful for having shared her life are her sons, Bill Hinks and his wife, Carolyn, Sioux Falls, SD, Jerry Hinks and his wife, Betty, Port Charlotte, FL, Don Hinks and his wife, Nancy, Cape Coral, Fl, Leslie Hinks and his wife, Betty, Austin, MN; daughter, Val Burns, Austin, MN; 30 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; brothers, Jim Hembd, California, Don Burgum, Long Beach, CA; and sister, Janet Hembd, Yankton, SD. In addition to her husband; a son, John; and a brother, Dale; preceded her in death.
