He passed away Friday, August 15 , 1997, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines following complications of surgery and myelofibrosis at the age of 77 years 10 months and 25 days. Read More	Max Raymond Morrow son of Raymond Anson and Etoile Emma (Jared) Morrow, was born September 20, 1919 in Seymour, Wayne County, Iowa. He passed away Friday, August 15 , 1997, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines following complications of surgery and myelofibrosis at the age of 77 years 10 months and 25 days. After graduating from Seymour High School in 1936, Max spent a short time working at Farmall in Moline, Illinois but the majority of his working life was devoted to the family business, Morrow Meat Market and Locker in Seymour started by his father Raymond in 1910. He owned and managed the business for 45 years until his retirement in 1985. Max was a 1Lt B-17G Flying Fortress pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps for five years beginning in 1940. In January, 1941 he had the distinction of being the first man drafted in Wayne County, Iowa. Max received his wings from the Army Air Corp advanced flying school at Stockton Field, California on June 18th, 1943. He left the states sometime in January, 1944. While flying a bombing mission over Schweinfurt, Germany during World War II, his plane was hit by flak and lost two engines forcing a crash landing. He and the crew were captured and Max spent the next 15 months in Stalag Luft 1 POW camp near Barth, Germany. On September 15, 1942, Max married Jenny Maxine Pester in Yuma, Arizona. They had children: Richard Max and Barbara Lynn. A devoted Christian all of his life, Max was an active member of the Seymour United Methodist Church and particularly enjoyed helping prepare breakfast for the men's fellowship. He was also a member of Nye-Birdwell American Legion Post # 180 where Max and a group of Legionaires fried up pork tenderloin sandwiches every Thursday evening. Following his retirement Max enjoyed traveling with Maxine, doing woodworking in his wood shop and vegetable gardening in his "Patch" in southwest Seymour. Interment was in Southlawn Cemetery, Seymour.
