Description	:	Maxine A. Fowler passed away on May 13th 2010 at Pine View in Valentine, Nebraska. She was 81. She was born May 22nd, 1928 in Colome, South Dakota to Earl and Mabel Bettelyoun. Growing up she lived in LaCreek where a tree that her father planted to celebrate her birth still stands today. She also lived Tuthill, Allen, and Pine Ridge. She was born May 22nd, 1928 in Colome, South Dakota to Earl and Mabel Bettelyoun. Growing up she lived in LaCreek where a tree that her father planted to celebrate her birth still stands today. She also lived Tuthill, Allen, and Pine Ridge. She owned and oper ated a drive in on the east side of Pine Ridge in early 1970. She married Calvin Hughes in 1948 and had three children, Calvin Jr, Carol, and Connie. They resided in Igloo, South Dakota where she worked at the offi cers club as a cook. While working there she had many fond memories of the people she cooked for and made friends with. One life long friend she made there was Branch Overstreet of Hot Springs, South Dakota. Once her and her family moved back to Valentine, Nebraska she worked at the Home Oil in Valentine as a cook. She married Carloss Fowler on July 29th, 1972 and moved to Chadron, Nebraska. In 1977 they moved to Aston, Idaho where they both worked at the potato factory and also as a team, cutting post and poles in the forest below the Grand Tetons Mountains. Moving back to Chadron in 1979 she became a stay at home wife and mother. Her days were filled with raising her grandchild, who she and her husband raised from the age of nine months till he turned 18. She also had a very special relationship with her step daughter and her daughter, Penny and Jeannie Lynn, who didn't let a day go by without visiting one an other while living there. In 1986, her family moved to Pine Ridge, South Dakota where they lived until moving north of Crook ston, Nebraska in 1992. They moved into Valentine in 1998 where she resided until her passing. In Maxine's long life, she had many passion's but she always loved children and caring for them most. Through out the years she not only raised her three but also took care of her nephew (Joe Herman), step children (Penny, Dennis, Jimmy Fowler)grandchil dren, (Sherry Lynn and Jamie Hughes and Rodney Fowler), and baby sat for many nieces, newphews, grand nieces, and grand newphews (Jason, Leon, and Melanie). She loved listening to her brothers sing and play music, playing cards, and yatzee. She was an avid Nascar fan and watched the races on tv whenever they were on. She was a collector of china and any thing with strawberries on it. She loved to cook and ever year would make Christmas candies that she shared with her family. One of her most famous dishes that her family always ask her to make was her marshmellow salad. She also loved her animals. Many dogs and parakeets found there home with her through out her long life. Maxine is survived by one son, Calvin Hughes, one daughter, Connie Hughes, both of Valentine, Ne braska; her brother and his wife, Ivan and Margie Bet telyoun of Oglala, South Dakota, her sisters and their husbands Pearl and Paul Hermann and Kay and Buzzy Fergeson, both of Kyle, South Dakota; sister in law, Darlene Bettelyoun of Oglala, South Dakota; grand daughters Vicki Miser of Severy, Kansas and Tina Baker of Lincoln, Nebraska; and Sherry Lynn Hughes of Kansas; step sons, Gary and Craig Fowler of Valen tine, Nebraska; Donny Fowler of Cheyenne, Wyoming; Dennis Fowler of Mobridge, South Dakota; and Fred Fowler of Colorado Springs, Colorado; step daughters, Karen Fowler of Valentine; Nebraska, Penny Frye of Chadron; Nebraska, and Kathy Fowler of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and grandson Rodney Fowler of Dallas Texas who she raised as her own. Also surviving are numerous grandchildren, great grand children, nieces, and nephews, including the Bette lyoun, Fowler, Herman, and Hughes families. Preceding her in death were her parents, Earl and Mabel Bettelyoun; husband, Carloss Fowler; daugh ter, Carol Joslin; brothers, Norval "Mike" Bettelyoun, Robert "Bobby" Bettelyoun; grandchild, Jamie Hughes, and niece Kathy Baughn. Maxine touched a number of people and will be miss greatly.
