She married Samuel Peppler on June 18, 1950 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Norfolk. Maxine worked for the Columbus City School District as a guidance department secretary for more than 20 years. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and the Columbus Community Hospital. Maxine was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she was also active in many church groups.
