IA Interment: November 21, 2011 at Odebolt Cemetery, Odebolt, IA ><> MAXINE RUTH WOODS~KESSLER was born on January 14, 1917, on a farm near Bagley, IA, to her parents Abigail (Roberts) and Clarence Raymond WOODS. At age 17, MAXINE left home, and worked for Rev. John Farnham and his wife Bertha at the Methodist parsonage in Pomeroy, IA. She helped care for their two boys. MAXINE moved with the Farnhams when they were transferred to the Odebolt Methodist Church in 1934 which is where she met WALTER FREDERICK KESSLER. They were married on August 25, 1937, and lived on the farm that Walter's parents owned. They lived there until their retirement in 1970 when they moved into Odebolt. MAXINE was a devoted wife and mother. She was an active member and past President of the Methodist Women's Society and always willing to give a lesson or serve others. Her skills in writing poetry and skits for all kinds of occasions were valued by friends and family. She was a longtime member of the Rebecca's and served as District President. Maxine was very creative and loved fashion. She was an avid seamstress and taught sewing classes for the county Extension Office. She also pursued classes in cake decorating and ceramics for which she placed 2nd in a tri-state competition. She also pursued the study of handwriting analysis. She enjoyed being a member of many local clubs and later Friends of the Library. In recent years her greatest joy was watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow up. She was always grateful for the love of her family and enjoyed being a part of their lives. MAXINE passed away at the Odebolt Nursing and Rehab Center on November 16, 2011, at the age of 94. MAXINE was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, who died on August 22, 2000. MAXINE is survived by ~ <> three daughters <> Helen Stalnaker and husband Paul of Paso Robles, CA, Sandra Host and husband Tony of Council Bluffs, IA, and Dorothy Engstrom of Council Bluffs, IA. MAXINE is also survived by three grandchildren and two step grandchildren; Carrie Maynard and her husband Roger and children Joe and Olive of Portland, ME, Melanie Cencek and her daughters Kayla and Aubrey from Council Bluffs, IA, Michael Engstrom of New York, NY, Jon Host of Washington, DC, and Laura Engstrom and her husband Dermot Ferry and step daughter Megan of Edinburgh, Scotland. Other survivors include two brothers, Carl Woods of Corpus Christi, TX, and George Clarke Woods of Riverton, UT, in addition to many nieces and nephews. <> === <<< + >>> === <>
