Description	:	May Ross Johnstone was the daughter of John Dehart Ross and Agnes Reid. She was the wife of John Armstong Johnston. On the 1880 Lexington, VA census, I found farmer and mold(er). John D H Ross, 40; wife Agnes R, 40; sons or daughters: William A, 15; Agnes R, 8; Elizabeth, 6; John Mc D, 4 and MAY, 1, all VA born. Read More	May Ross Johnstone was the daughter of John Dehart Ross and Agnes Reid. She was the wife of John Armstong Johnston. On the 1880 Lexington, VA census, I found farmer and mold(er). John D H Ross, 40; wife Agnes R, 40; sons or daughters: William A, 15; Agnes R, 8; Elizabeth, 6; John Mc D, 4 and MAY, 1, all VA born. She married John Armstong Johnston, after the 1930 census and before the 1940 census. On the 1940 Lexington, Rockbridge Co., VA census, I found farmer John A Johnston, 65 and wife May Ross Johnston, 61, both VA born. I note just SW of the cemetery and north of the meandering Main Street is both a Johnstone Street and a McMath Street. Husband John A Johnston (no E) died in 1953. His gravestone does not have an added E. It is unknown when she added the E to her surname. Two daughters of James Johnston (Susan, died 1964 and Ann, died 1960) added an E to their surname on their Johnstone grave stones, at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Cemetery. Also their sister in law (above), May Ross (died 1972), wife of their brother John A Johnston, did likewise. May Ross Johnstone was born on 1 Aug 1878 in Virginia, to parents John Dehart Ross and Agnes Reid. She was the wife of John Johnstone. On 19 May 1972, she died at Stonewall Jackson E. C. F. in Lexington, VA. The informant was Mrs. Martha Hunt. VA Cert. of Death #72-014281. Her gravestone says: MAY ROSS JOHNSTONE AUG. 1, 1878 MAY 19, 1972 Bio by LSP
