Description	:	MINDEN — May Bush Copley, 91, of Minden, formerly of Hastings and Franklin, died Tuesday, June 17, 2014, at Bethany Home in Minden. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Greenwood Cemetery near Franklin followed by memorial services at 11 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Minden with the Rev. Daniel Davis officiating. Layton-Craig Funeral Home in Minden is in charge of the arrangements. She was born May 4, 1923, in Basking Ridge, N.J., to Sargent Bush and Marion Roberts. On Sept. 4, 1948, she married Stanley J. Copley. He died Sept. 30, 2010. Survivors include her daughters, Jane Copley Holveck and her husband, Randy, Sarah Bush Copley Bartlett and Julia Hammond Copley Thomsen and her husband, Ronald; eight grandchildren, Katherine Thomsen Pierson and Jay, Abby Thomsen, Anne Thomsen Lord and Errol, Christian Thomsen and Katie, Elizabeth Bartlett, Julia Bartlett, Robert Holveck and Elizabeth, and James Holveck and Laura; six great-grandchildren, Theodore, Phoebe, Thomsen, Lavinia, Copley and Lee, and Hammond and Ned; many nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Cynthia Bush, wife of Sargent Bush; and brother-in-law, Charles Susen, husband of Marion Bush Susen. She was the second of five children. Her siblings were Lavinia, Katherine, Marion and Sargent Bush Jr. May grew up in Princeton, N.J., Slatington, Pa., and Flemington, N.J. She and her sister Katherine attended a church boarding school in Bethlehem, Pa., their junior and senior years of high school and then went together to a Presbyterian college in Wooster, Ohio. May graduated from Wooster with a bachelor of arts degree and then went to Abington (Pa.) Memorial Hospital for an additional 15 months of training to become a medical technologist. As an "adventure," May went with her parents and youngest sibling, Sargent Bush Jr., to Lincoln where her father had accepted a two-year assignment to work with war veterans and their families at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She procured a medical technologist job and soon met her future husband, Stanley Julian Copley. In 1949 they moved to Chicago. Her husband taught high school world history, and their three daughters were born there. In 1954 the family moved to Franklin, Stanley's hometown. They lived there for five years, and May raised Suffolk sheep in addition to her homemaking responsibilities. In fall 1959, they moved to Hastings, where Stanley taught high school world history and May remained busy with the family and their activities. When her oldest daughter, Jane, was a senior in high school, May rejoined the working world in order to pay for their daughters' college educations. She worked first as a medical technologist at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital and then as the full-time medical librarian for the staff library at Hastings Regional Center. After working at HRC for five years, May and Stanley returned to Franklin where they raised Angus cattle. They built a new house and enjoyed 33 years of cattle ranching and then retirement. Her daughters and grandchildren were frequent visitors, for they all loved her dearly. In January 2007, May and Stanley moved to College View Assisted Living in Hastings. They stayed for three years but moved to Good Samaritan Village when Stanley needed more care. May continued to live at Good Samaritan Village until August 2013, when she moved to Bethany Home in Minden.
