Description	:	Melinda was one of nine known children born to William David and Minerva Faye Lloyd Martin. She came to California in the Francher/Baker Wagon Train from Tennessee/Arkansas. The train stopped in Utah and by the flip of a coin her father was chosen to take half the wagon train to Northern California to a town by the name of Dogtown, now Magalia. The family consisted of W. D. Martin, his wife, Minerva, Malinda, her small brother James Mathew and her sister Mary Jane. Her mother was pregnant at the time of the trip with her brother John... Read More	Melinda was one of nine known children born to William David and Minerva Faye Lloyd Martin. She came to California in the Francher/Baker Wagon Train from Tennessee/Arkansas. The train stopped in Utah and by the flip of a coin her father was chosen to take half the wagon train to Northern California to a town by the name of Dogtown, now Magalia. The family consisted of W. D. Martin, his wife, Minerva, Malinda, her small brother James Mathew and her sister Mary Jane. Her mother was pregnant at the time of the trip with her brother John Lister Martin. They were in that area for about five years and then moved to the Llano Seco where her father established a large ranch along with other settlers and some from that train. In time however several brothers and sisters died as well as her mother. They are all buried in the Martin Family Cemetery located on the Llano Seco. After losing so many family members so soon and having a ranch to run and children to care for her father soon remarried. The ranch was taken away from him by John Parrot and the whole family removed to a new location in Artios leaving their home and family cemetery behind. To this new marriage 3 more children were born. On January 23, 1872 Melinda married Joseph W. Bondurant in Colusa County. He was the son of George Bondurant and Elizabeth Nancy Lewis. They established a very large ranch and home in Glenn County. Joseph died October 10, 1888 at 44 years old leaving Malinda with two boys; George and William. After the probate she was left with nothing as the ranch was heavily indebted to A. Galland and P. N. Aronson. Her brother, John Lister Martin, was living in Yolo County by then and I believe that is where Malinda went as she met and married Albert R. Ransch in Solano County on January 25, 1892. They lived in Solano County for a while and by 1900 they were living in Willows where they remained until her death. RANSCH DIES AFTER PARALYTIC STROKE HAD BEEN SUFFERER FOR LONG TIME-FUNERAL AT THREE O'CLOCK THIS AFTERNOON FROM BAPTIST CHURCH-WAS TWICE MARRIED AND LEAVES HUSBAND AND TWO SONS After a long illness during which she had three strokes of paralysis, Mrs. Malinda C. Ransch died at 4:20 o'clock Saturday afternoon at her home at 253 South Shasta Street. The funeral was at 3 o'clock this afternoon. Services were held at the Baptist church by Rev. J. C. Garth. Mrs. Ransch was born in Tennessee November, 1849. She came to California in 1857. She resided in Paradise, Butte County, about five years. then she came to Glenn county and has lived here most of time since. In 1857 she was married to J. W. Bondurant who died October 10. 1888. By this marriage there were two sons, George Arthur and William Frank Bondurant, both of whom survive their mother. In 1892 she married A. R. Ransch who also survives her. Other surviving relatives are Mrs. Ransch's sister, Mrs. Ellen C. Bird of Sacramento; her brother, John L. Martin of Hamilton City, and her sister, Mrs. Tennessee D. Corrigan of Monterey. Malinda was buried with Joseph in this cemetery but her name was never added to the monument.
