Hope community. ..Melva was an active member of her church and community organizations. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She dedicated and enjoyed her time with the Methodist Women and doing the church funeral dinners. She cherished the honor received in 1990 from the United Methodist Women. ..She enjoyed the Mt. Hope Bible Study Club; was a member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary and had served as a member of the Lebanon School Board. In her leisure time she enjoyed quilting, having made one for each of her children and grandchildren. she was also an excellent cook and was especially know for baking pies. ..Melva showed her sincere warmth and genuine concern for others through her deeds and desire to help whenever called upon. Her ready smile and comforting ways will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Kenneth Rippen. ..Left to treasure her memory are her husband Paul G. McCartney; her children Dr. Roger McCartney and wife, Charlene, of Belleville, Kansas; Gary McCartney and wife, Judy, of Red Cloud, Ne.; Judy Mitchell and husband Phil, of Salina, Ks.; Paula Disbrow and husband, Perry, of Chanute, Ks. and Allen McCartney and wife, Virginia, of Great Bend, Ks. ..Grandchildren: Barry and Brian McCartney, Jari and Jason McCartney, Justin and Sara Mitchell, Ryan and Melanie Disbrow and Jill McCartney. ..Brothers: Delton Rippen and wife, colleen, of Hastings, Ne., and Robert and wife, Julia, of Tucson, Az. sisters: Mrs. Ollie (Hazel) Holthaus of Seneca, Ks., Mrs. Phyllis DeFranchi of San Francisco, Calif., Mrs. Rein (Julia Ann) Schutte and Mrs. Bob (Naomi) Junker all of Juniata, Ne.; other relatives and many friends. ..Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 13, 1991, from the First United Methodist Church in Red Cloud with the Rev. Dennis Linton-Hendrick officating. Louise Eldred sang "How Great Thou Art" and "On The Wings of a Snow White Dove" accompanied by Betty Rasser, organist. ..The casket bearers were Dennis McCartney, Bob McCartney, Paul E.
