He was born on August 22, 1913 in Ross Township, Ohio the son of Charles and Katherine (Angst) Schwab. He attended Hamilton City Schools and graduated from Hamilton High School in 1931. He was born on August 22, 1913 in Ross Township, Ohio the son of Charles and Katherine (Angst) Schwab. He attended Hamilton City Schools and graduated from Hamilton High School in 1931. On January 8, 1941, in Millville, Ohio, he married Clova Strothman. They farmed and made their home together on the family farm in Ross Township for 64 years. He was also employed in the Maintenance Department at Miami University, retiring in 1978. Melvin was a member of Butler Rural Electric and a former member of the Ross Board of Education from 1949 to 1956. He was a member of Faith United Church of Christ (formerly known as the Millville Federated Church) where he was active in many areas in the church including Sunday school teacher, church treasurer, and Sunday school superintendent. He is survived by his wife, Clova Schwab of Ross Township; two children, Judith Strong and her husband, Brack and Robert M. Schwab and his wife, Maxine, all of Hamilton; four grandchildren, Lisa Black and her husband, Bill of Eagan, Minnesota, Monica Hartong and her husband, Brad of Decatur, Alabama, Jennifer Schwab of Hamilton, and Robert E.W. Schwab of Cincinnati; one great grandson, Isaac Hartong; one brother, Curtis Schwab of Shreveport, Louisiana; and many other loving relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Elanor Bittner. There will be a funeral service held at Charles C. Young Funeral Home, 4032 Hamilton Cleves Road, Ross, Ohio on Saturday, June 4, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. with pastor, Rev. Dr. Allen Minor presiding. Burial will follow at Millville Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. If desired, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or Hospice of Cincinnati.
