Description	:	The following is from the newspaper, "The Beatrice Daily Sun," Beatrice, NE dated August 3, 2004. Melvin Edward Thiemann, 89, Pawnee City, died Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, at Lincoln. He was born Feb. 15, 1915, to William Edward and Rose (Mach) Thiemann at Pawnee City. He was raised on a farm near the Nebraska-Kansas state line and attended school in the area. He later graduated from four aircraft schools. On June 15, 1941, he married Virginia Cope. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the south Pacific and received several medals. Melvin Edward Thiemann, 89, Pawnee City, died Monday, Aug. 2, 2004, at Lincoln. He was born Feb. 15, 1915, to William Edward and Rose (Mach) Thiemann at Pawnee City. He was raised on a farm near the Nebraska-Kansas state line and attended school in the area. He later graduated from four aircraft schools. On June 15, 1941, he married Virginia Cope. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the south Pacific and received several medals. He was discharged as a master sergeant. After that he went to work for Ford Motor Co. in the tractor division. After retiring from there he worked for the Small Business Association in Lincoln for 15 years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, past commander of the American Legion, charter member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Pawnee City and was a nearly 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge. He helped organize the avenue of flags and helped with them for many years. He enjoyed the outdoors, evening walks in the woods, listening to animal sounds, watching small animals and fishing.Survivors: wife, Virginia; son, Gary Edward and wife Laurette; grandchildren, Kevin Edward and wife Stephanie, Gary Joel Thiemann; one great-grandson; sister-in-law, Carol Thiemann; sister, Violet Holechek and husband Paul; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Willard. Funeral service: 10:30 a.m., Friday, Aug. 6, United Methodist Church, 849 F St., Pawnee City, pastor Mark Crist officiating. Interment: Pawnee City Cemetery. Visitation: 2 p.m.-8 p.m. Thursday with the family greeting friends flag ceremony will be conducted by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars of Pawnee City. Memorials to the Pawnee County Memorial Hospital, 600 I St., Pawnee City, NE 68420. Wherry Brothers Mortuary, Pawnee City, in charge of arrangements. from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. at the Wherry Brothers Mortuary, 919 G St., Pawnee City.
