Melvin was born on November 28, 1929 on the farm near McClusky, ND. He loved riding horses as a boy, the faster, the better. Melvin was a medic in the Army and served in the Korean war. While overseas, Melvin wrote to the love of his life, Violet. They were married on October 18, 1953. Their marriage was cut short at 52 years in 2006 when Violet passed away. He spent the last years of her life taking care of her 24 hours a day. He was a true example of unconditional love and had a marriage to aspire to. He loved farming, playing the accordion, cards and doing the polka! He is survived by his daughter Joetta Teckmeyer, his brothers Welford and Ernie Jesz, his sisters Lorraine Volochenko and Charlotte Peterson, and his grandchildren Jordan Teckmeyer and Ashley Meek; great-granddaughter Ellie Meek. Melvin was preceded in death by his wife Violet Jesz, nephew Jeff Zeeb, sister Vangie Willows, brother Clarence Jesz, mother Katie Hausauer and father Emmanual Jesz. He was being held by his daughter Joetta and granddaughter Ashley when Jesus took him home.
