Description	:	OBITUARY: Merle Kenneth Wylie was born on January 27, 1921, on the family farm west of Barnard, SD, the son of Fred and Ida (McCormick) Wylie. He graduated from Barnard High School, where he participated in football, basketball, track, baseball and band. Merle was united in marriage with LoRayne Hakanson on October 2, 1942 at Webster, SD. Read More	OBITUARY: Merle Kenneth Wylie was born on January 27, 1921, on the family farm west of Barnard, SD, the son of Fred and Ida (McCormick) Wylie. He graduated from Barnard High School, where he participated in football, basketball, track, baseball and band. Merle was united in marriage with LoRayne Hakanson on October 2, 1942 at Webster, SD. They moved to Startford, SD, and then to Ferney, SD, where Merle managed the Ferney Farmers Elevator. In 1954, they moved to Aberdeen, SD, where he worked at Spaulding Auto and Artz Camera Supply. He retired in 1983. Merle enjoyed his family and shared his interest in sports and music with them. Merle played amateur baseball for several years and umpired baseball games after his playing days ended. He also was an avid golfer and bowler. After retirement, Merle and LoRayne enjoyed traveling and accumulated many volumes of photographs from these trips. He particularly enjoyed going dancing with his wife. He loved to watch his children, granchildren and great-grandchildren participate in all of their activities until failing health prevented his attendance. He was a supporter of Northern State University and Aberdeen Central athletics. For many years, he belonged to the Downtown Quarterbacks Club, the Elks Club and the Moose Lodge. He recently received a 50 year member certificate from the Plymouth Congregational Church in Aberdeen, SD. Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife, LoRayne of Brandon, SD, a son Dennis Wylie of Sioux Falls and his wife, Bonnie; a daughter Vicki Libis of White Bear Lake, MN and her husband John; a grandson, Jason Wylie and his wife Rosalie, and great-grandchildren, Marcus, Anthony, and Mary Wylie, all of Aberdeen, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brother, Chester, Leland, Floyd, Leo, and Delbert, and a sister Bernice Voeller.
