Feb 9, 1927 - Carroll Times - Mrs. L.T. Anderson, who had been a resident of Carroll for 49 years, died Sunday evening at 10 o'clock, at St. Anthony hospital, death being caused by kidney trouble with heart complications. Mrs. Anderson was taken to the hospital last Thursday, and though she had not recovered sufficiently to be taken home, was apparently getting along nicely until Sunday afternoon, when she complained of being sleepy, took a turn for the worse, and gradually failed until death claimed her at 10 o'clock. She lost consciousness a short time prior to her death, and she slept peacefully to the end. Mrs. Anderson as Metta Marie Anderson, was born in Sjaelland, Denmark, April 1, 1854, and came to America with her parents when she was 18 years old. The new home was established in Story City, Iowa, and the family came here because of the advice of a physician in Denmark, who advised a change of climate for the only brother, Andrew Anderson, as well as recommended an ocean trip. Besides the brother, there were two sisters in the family. The elder sister was married prior to their emigration to America, and she remained in her native land, later dying. The brother died in Story City five years ago, and the remaining sister resides at Janesville, Wis. Mrs. Anderson was married to L.T. Anderson of Carroll, December 11, 1878, and immediately came to this city, where she has since resided. Seven children were born, one son, Harry, met death by accident while in his seventh year, and the surviving children are: John T. and Louis H. Anderson, of the firm of Anderson Bros. & Co., Mrs. Carrie Boettger, Minnie, Harriet, and Margaret, at home. She is also survived by three grandsons and one granddaughter. Mr. Anderson died in this city August 9, 1921. He was one of the stockholders of The Carroll Times and Mrs. Anderson has continued to hold the stock. Mrs. Anderson possessed a wonderful personality and endeared herself to every one with whom she came in contact with her cheerful disposition and friendliness. She was a lover of home and was always busy with the affairs of her family, though she kept in touch with the affairs of the country at large, always living in the present and planning for the future. She was broadminded, and advice from her was not only appreciated by members of the family, but by friends as well. Optimistic to a marked degree, her humor and bits of witticism were a pleasure to all who knew her. She could be serious, however, and up to the time of her illness, none of the children were too mature to go to her in time of need and this characteristic was often commented upon and admired. She was a member of the Eastern Star chapter and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Funeral services were conducted from the home Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock, and burial was made in the Carroll cemetery.
