Norman was born Sept. 10, 1918, in Box Butte County on the Laursen family farm, to Marius and Martha (Petersen) Laursen. He received his education at District No. 79 in Box Butte County. He lived and worked on the Laursen family farm until he moved to Denver, Co where he lived until he enlisted in the USMC on Dec. 27, 1939. Within days of the attack on Pearl Harbor he was taken Prisoner Of War as one of the defenders of Wake Island. He was liberated on Sept. 14, 1945. He also served in Korea and Vietnam before retiring as Master Gunnery Sergeant of the United States Marine Corps on March 20, 1970 at Marine Headquarters at Washington DC. He resided in Scottsbluff and Hemingford, spending his last few years in Scottsbluff. He was an avid ham radio operator and gardener. He is survived by his daughter Lynesa Laursen Ayers of New Bern, N.C.; Son GYSGT John Stanley Laursen, USMC, RET of Hubert, N.C.; one granddaughter; and one great granddaughter: He also is survived by brothers: Sherman Laursen of Alliance and Milford Laursen of Lakewood, Colo., and sisters: Alice Lysek of Gulf Breeze, Fla., and Marion Lysek of Thornton, Colo.
