Description	:	Twila Annajane (Shetler) Albright, age 86, died peacefully at Highland Park Care Center in Alliance on February 24, 2011. Twila was born in Sioux County on December 21st, 1924 to Rolla and Hattie Shetler. Twila graduated from Hemingford Schools and earned a teaching certificate in Kearney in 1943. She also worked as a telephone operator, and as the recipient of the call to Hemingford that World War II was over, she rang the fire bell to alert the town of the joyous news. Twila married Sgt. Twila was born in Sioux County on December 21st, 1924 to Rolla and Hattie Shetler. Twila graduated from Hemingford Schools and earned a teaching certificate in Kearney in 1943. She also worked as a telephone operator, and as the recipient of the call to Hemingford that World War II was over, she rang the fire bell to alert the town of the joyous news. Twila married Sgt. Norman Laursen on Dec. 31, 1945. They had two children, John Stanley and Lynesa Marie. During her travels as a military wife, she lived in many wonderful places, her favorite of which was Kaneohe Marine Corps Base in Hawaii. While Norman was deployed to Korea and Viet Nam, Twila and the children lived in Hemingford. Later in life, she traveled far and wide to exciting parts of the world including Europe, Australia, New Zealand and the Caribbean. After settling back in Hemingford in the 1970s, Twila became a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1976, and worked at Box Butte General Hospital as well as in the office of Dr. John Ruffing. She served several terms on the Hemingford Town Council and as Chair of the Hemingford Library Board. In June of 1978 she married Russell ("Rusty") Albright, who preceded her in death March 7, 1980. After a nearly 30-year career as the manager of the Hemingford Nutrition Center, Twila retired at the age of 84. She remained active in the community and at Highland Park until just a few weeks before her death. She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary and enjoyed bowling, golfing, Nebraska Cornhusker football, and Atlanta Braves baseball. She earned a number of awards recognizing her volunteer service and other achievements, including the President's Volunteer Service Award in 2007. Twila is survived by her son, John Stanley Laursen and his wife Marion of Hubert, N.C.; daughter Lynesa Laursen Ayers and her husband Dr. John Ayers of New Bern, N.C.; granddaughter Karen Lancaster and husband Marshall of Silver Spring, Md.; two beloved great-granddaughters, Laursen Victoria Lancaster and Anna Page Lancaster; three brothers: Elwin "Skip" Shetler, Rev. Vernon Shetler, and Claren Shetler. In addition to her parents and Rusty Albright, she was preceded in death by her sisters Elva Shetler Dickey, Ruby Shetler Mize and Amy Shetler Jensen, and brothers Glenn, Loran, and Zelden. Burial was in the Hemingford Cemetery, Hemingford, NE.
