Matheny, familiary known as “Mike”, was reported here Monday morning, but no particulars were learned, other than that he had been in bad health, and probably at hospital when he died. Deceased formerly lived on Little Back Creek, but later in life located in Pocahontas County, W.Va. being postmaster at Bartow for a number of years. His wife, a daughter of the late John E. Highland Recorder August 24, 1906 Fire at Bartow The store building of C. K. Parmer at Bartow, and the stock of goods of Oscar Turner, recently purchased of M. E. Matheny, were totally destroyed by fire last Saturday night. We have not heard any estimate of the loss, but fifteen new sewing machines belonging to V. B. Bishop & Co., and stored in the building, were lost. It was also the office of the Mutual Telephone Co., and their switch board and fixtures were also burned. The origin of the fire is not known.
