Description	:	E.M. Funk, senior editor of the Democrat, left on Monday evening for Deep River, Iowa in response to a telegram announcing that his father, M. Funk, was at the point of death. Tuesday morning a telegram was received saying that Mr. Funk had died at seven o'clock the previous evening. The deceased had visited here several times and is well known to a number of our citizens. Source: Obituaries of Benton County, Arkansas book, pages 22 and 23. M. Funk, father of E.M. Funk of the Rogers Democrat, died recently at his home at Deep River, Iowa. Michael and Adaline (Newcomer) Funk were both natives of Washington county, Maryland. They were reared and married in that state and in 1847 came north, establishing their home in Ogle county, Illinois. In July 1854 they came to Dresden, now called Deep River, Poweshiek county, and for many years Michael worked in the store with his son-in-law, Mr. George Cox. In 1888 he went to Louisiana, where he engaged in the mercantile business and was also appointed postmaster at Roanoke. He eventually returned to Poweshiek county, however, and passed away here Nov. 20, 1899, when he was seventy-six years of age. His wife surviving him for only a few months, departed this life June 2, 1900, at the same age. Their family numbered six children, namely : 1. Catharine, now Mrs. Cox; 2. Henry U., a practicing attorney of Rogers, Arkansas; 3. Emanuel, an attorney of Rogers, Arkansas; 4. George, who is a Congregational minister of Fort Worth, Texas; 5.
