At about the age of 3 years, he was brought to White Side, Ill., by his foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Hendrick, where he grew to young manhood. Shoemaker was born April 20, 1851, in Juniata Co., Pa., and departed this life at his home in Farimont, Nebr., September 28, 1943. Aged 92 years, 5 months and 8 days. At about the age of 3 years, he was brought to White Side, Ill., by his foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Hendrick, where he grew to young manhood. May 9, 1874, he was united in the holy bonds of matrimony to Addie C. Riglin of Malvern, Ill. To this union six children were born: Mrs. W.E. Black and Charles R. Shoemaker, Fairmont; Mrs. C.W. Rudisil and Alvin R. Shoemaker, Broadwater, Nebraska, and Zola R., Fairmont. Harry R. passed away in infancy. After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Shoemaker established residence near Linden, Ill., where they lived about five years. In February, 1879, they came to Nebraska and settled on a farm two miles east of Fairmont, where they lived for nearly 40 years. February 6, 1917, they moved to their present home in Fairmont, where they made their home until they departed this life. He took an active interest in public and community affairs. This interest he maintained until stricken five days before his death. For 21 years he was school director in his home district. He leaves to mourn his passing, his five children already named, 13 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; a host of friends and other relatives. Indeed, a great pioneering soul has bone on to meet his Maker. Funeral services were conducted at the Shoemaker home at 2:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon, Rev. E.R. King, pastor of the Fairmont Federated church officiating. Oliver Moul was the singer. Pallbearers were Leonard Eifert, Urban Becker, O.E. Harmon, L.W. Real, Harry Putlitz and C.A. Moore.
