He came to the locality about 40 years ago and by industry and good management acquired a large farm north of town, which he occupied until a few years ago when because of advancing years he gave up active life and built a nice home in town, where he and his daughter have since lived. Mrs Moylan having passed away several years ago. Michael Moylan was born in County Mayo, Ireland July 18, 1850 and came to America in 1872, locating first a Boston, where he remained 5 years or until 1877 when he moved to the vicinity of Dallas Center, Iowa taking up a business of farming as a renter. In 1881 he moved to near Scranton, renting 240 acres of land which he farmed for 3 years and at the end of this time bought 120 acres in Union township, near Coon Rapids and settled upon it in 1884, adding from time to time to his original purchase until he owned 800 acres. He was a successful stock raiser as well as farmer. In 1876 he was united in marriage to Miss Bridget Carroll, who died in 1916. To this union 8 children were born: Mrs Mary Brutsche, Thomas, John, William, Joseph, Francis, Nora, and Eva.
