Harbine, NE by Pastor Otto Pinckert. On April 23, 1967, Mike renewed his baptismal vows through the act of confirmation by Pastor C. George Kuhn in Hope United Church of Christ, Harbine. Mike lived in the rural Harbine area most of his life. He attended Diller schools and graduated with the class of 1971. While in high school, Mike participated in basketball and was a member of F.F.A. He also attended Kearney State College and worked for various shoe companies for 5 years, then Mike returned to the family dairy farm, helping mainly with the milking until two years ago, when the Huntingtons Disease, which Mike was afflicted with, no longer permitted him to do so. Mike enjoyed being with family and especially entertaining his nieces and nephews. Traveling was also a delight to him, visiting relatives in California and spending time with his sister, Bonnie and family in Pennsylvania. He also enjoyed the many sports programs on television and reading sports magazines. He was a lifetime member of Hope United Church of Christ, Harbine, NE. In his youth, Mike was a faithful member of the Youth Fellowship and also served three years as deacon on the church council. Mike passed away at his family farm on Sunday morning, October 7, 1984 at the age of 31 years, 11 months and 3 days. Surviving are his parents, Richard and Jean Schnuelle, Jansen; sister, Bonnie and husband, Roger Young of York, Penn; brothers, Douglas and wife Kathy of R.R. 2, Beatrice, Gregory of R.R. Jansen; Bradley and wife Brenda of R.R. Diller; step-brothers, Kent Schlake and wife Nadine of Adams; Kendall Schlake and wife, Lola of R.R. Diller; step-sister, Kaye Schlake of Lincoln; grandmother, Clare Menke of Beatrice and step-grandmother, Gertrude Hestermann of Adams; nephews and nieces, Jason & Derek Young, Anthony and Ashley Schnuelle, Bridget Schnuelle, Erin and Erica Schlake. Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Jacqueline Schnuelle in 1966. Also his grandparents, Oscar and Ida Schnuelle and Rulo Rathbun. Memorial services were held Oct. 10, 1984 in the Diller United Church of Christ with Pastor Eugene Bock officiating. Soloist Harry Kisling sang "How Great Thou Art" and was accompanied by Diane Kisling, organist. The congregation sang the hymn, "I Need Thee Every Hour". Interment was in Prairie View Cemetery, Diller. Casket bearers were Mike's cousins, Dennis and Dale Nippert, Keith Neumann, Charles Barber Jr., Jeff Schuerman and LaVern Engelman.
