Con-celebrants for the Mass will be the Revs. Timothy Johnson, John Gerald, Joseph Dillinger, Thomas Geelan, Richard Remmes and Deacon Timothy Murphy. Ms. Kerwin died Sunday, March 14, 2010, at the Kerwin family home in Carroll after battling cancer. Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at the Holy Spirit Church in Carroll, with a Kuemper family vigil for all Kuemper staff, students and alumni to begin at 2 p.m.; a rosary to be prayed at 4 p.m.; and a vigil service to be held at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume at 9 a.m. Thursday, March 18, at the church. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery at Carroll. Memorials to the Kuemper Catholic School Foundation are preferred. Ohde Twit Funeral Home of Carroll is in charge of the arrangements. Lectors for the Mass will be Kathryn Strother and Robert Strother. The homilist will be Rev. James McCormick. Gift bearers will be Sister Maris Kerwin and Kathleen Ogle. Music will be provided by Rebecca Windschitl and All Strings Attached. Casket bearers will be David Sporrer, Tom Sporrer , Bill Kane, Tom Forbes, Ryan Milligan and Nate Badding. Honorary casket bearers will be Kathryn Braddy, Deb Gute, Winnie Geelan-Potthoff, Jean Guy, Karen Heim and Diane Badding A daughter of James F. and Nancy (Cook) Kerwin, she was born Dec. 14, 1955, at Carroll. She attended Holy Spirit School, graduating from Kuemper Catholic High School in 1974. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa in English from Iowa State University and earned a master's degree from the University of Iowa in Library Science. Since 1980, she was an English teacher on the faculty of Kuemper Catholic High School. In April 2009, she was diagnosed with cancer. She continued teaching while courageously battling the disease and in February 2010, she retired from Kuemper. She was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, had served on various committees at school, and had donated over ten gallons of blood. She enjoyed her family and friends, her cats, reading, traveling, music, learning and helping others. Survivors include her mother, Nancy of Carroll; her sister, Patrice Strother and husband Dr. Ralph T. of Union; her special friend, Larry L. "Doc" Sporrer of Templeton; her niece, Kathryn Strother of Ames; her nephew, Robert Strother of Ames; aunts: Sr. Maris Kerwin, F.S.P.A. of LaCrosse, Wis. and Kay Ogle and husband Lee of Omaha, Neb.; and thousands of former students.
