Mrs. Bloomfield, who lived in Sterling since her junior high school years, was born in Hayes Center, Neb. in 1919. She graduated from Logan County High School (now Sterling High School) in 1936. She married H. Wayne Bloomfield in 1942; they had one daughter, Sharon. During World War II Mrs. Bloomfield served in the 65 1st Photo Lab Company Aerial of the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps at Fort Bradley, Conn. She was office manager of the Montgomery Ward Retail Store in Sterling until it closed and then served as the first manager of the Montgomery Ward Catalog Store. She was also the first manager of Sweetbri of Beau Monde, both ladies' dress shops in Sterling. She was active in the Sterling Chamber of Commerce during the time she worked in retail manage ment. She also worked as a secretary for Ceres Land Company. In recent years, Mrs. Bloomfield was co-owner of Millies Classic Glass where she produced stained glass and kaleidoscopes and taught classes in both. She was active in many organizations over the years, includ ing the Sterling High School Columbine Band Boosters, the Rebekah Lodge, where she was a past Noble Grand; the Ladies Auxiliary Patriarch Militant, where she received the Decora tion of Chivalry; the Brewster Society, a professional organization of kaleidoscope artists; and was a charter member of the VFW Auxiliary, receiving her 55-year pin earlier this year. She was the treasurer and a council member of Faith United Methodist Church for approximately 20 years and also designed and built 18 of the church's stained glass windows. Mrs. Bloomfield is survived by her daughter, Sharon Murphy of Reston, Va.; two granddaughters, Heather Mur phy Tompkins of Richmond, Va., and Kelli Murphy of Washington, D.C.; and one great-granddaughter and namesake, nine-month-old Mildred Elizabeth Tompkins, "Millie," of Richmond, Va. She is also survived by her business partner and dear friend, Jerry Cronk, of Cheyenne, Wyo. She was preceded in death by her parents, Guy L. and Glennora (Bender) Gillespie; her husband, H. Wayne Bloomfield; three brothers: D.W. "Bill" Gillespie, Guy Bender "Ben" Gillespie, Daryl Junior Gillespie, sister, Laverna Gillespie.
