Description	:	Mildred G. Higgins, 97, of Beatrice died on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at the Beatrice Health and Rehab. She was born on September 25, 1919 at Verdon and was the fourth of six children. She graduated from Lewiston High School in 1936, attended Peru State Teachers College and taught school in Johnson County for five years. She married Clarence Higgins on September 14, 1942 in Beatrice and they lived, farmed and raised Purebred Spotted Poland China Hogs near Lewiston, Burchard and Steinauer areas. She was born on September 25, 1919 at Verdon and was the fourth of six children. She graduated from Lewiston High School in 1936, attended Peru State Teachers College and taught school in Johnson County for five years. She married Clarence Higgins on September 14, 1942 in Beatrice and they lived, farmed and raised Purebred Spotted Poland China Hogs near Lewiston, Burchard and Steinauer areas. After moving to Beatrice in 1965, she worked in the nursery of the Lutheran Hospital and also worked at the Parkview Care Center, retiring in 1992. She was a member of Salem United Church of Christ of Steinauer where she had been a member of the women’s fellowship and taught Sunday School for many years. She enjoyed sewing, embroidery work, crocheting, gardening and walking. Survivors include two daughters, Beverly (Lloyd) Davis of Louisville, CO and Janet (Les) Lindblad of Denton; daughter-in-law, Rosalie Higgins of Beatrice; four grandchildren, David (Keri) Davis, Mindi (Sarah) Milburn, Ralph (Shelley) Dorr, and Kodi (Misty) Higgins; six great-grand-daughters, Mackenzie, Makenna, Kierra Higgins, Bryce Jensen, Emerson Dorr, Saylor Davis; one brother, Norman Whitten of Grand Island; one brother-in-law, Carl Higgins of Billings, Montana; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilmer and Maude Noah Whitten; husband Clarence, who died on February 28, 2005; son, Leroy “Lee” Higgins; two brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, July 24, 2017 at the Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice with Pastor Eric Biehl officiating. Burial will be at the Evergreen Home Cemetery. A memorial has been established to Salem United Church of Christ of Steinauer. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home from 8:00 A.M.
