Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with burial in Calvary Cemetery, both in Cascade. Otting, 87, of Cascade, died at 4:18 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001, at Shady Rest Care Center, Dubuque. She married Herbert "Chub" Otting on June 23, 1937, at St. Mary's Church, Cascade; he died on June 14, 1990. She received her education at the former St. Mary's School, Cascade. She was a volunteer in the Aquin school system for many years. She was a member St. Matthias Parish, Cascade, and Klocke's Quilters. She made quilts for each of her grandchildren. She was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed playing canasta and bingo. At the age of 65, Millie took the nurses aid course at Northeast Iowa Community College and worked as an aid at Shady Rest Care Center for several years. Millie was a loving, generous, witty, intelligent, outspoken, caring woman. She was a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. We will miss her humor, wisdom and unfailing love. We will keep her alive in our hearts and minds and think of her everyday and smile. We are grateful to God for allowing us the privilege of being a part of her life and only hope we can be worthy living legacies to her. Surviving are a son, Timothy (Betty) Otting, of Cascade; three daughters, Kathy (Bill) Barden, of Cascade, Ruth (Jon) Gjerde, of Albany, Calif., and Vickie (Dan) Kelchen, of Cascade; 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Dick Cigrand, of Monticello; and four sisters, Rita Livengood, of Shawnee, Kan., and Jean Ann Cigrand, Marion Cigrand and Mag Menster, all of Cascade. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Kalishek, on May 19, 2001; a son, Kenneth "Ozzie" Otting, on July 20, 1997; four brothers; and two sisters. The Otting Family would like to thank Hospice of Dubuque for the care and concern they showed Millie and her family in the final days of her life. The family would also like to express their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the entire staff of Shady Rest Care Center for the eight years of care and concern shown to Millie and her family Knowing she was in such good hands was a great comfort to us. A very special thank you to her sisters, Nanny, Marion and Mag, and sister-in-law, Annabel for the love, devotion and care they showed Millie her entire life.
