He was born Oct. 21, 1912, in Galesburg, Kansas, to Johnnie A. and Della M. (Baker) Cress. When he was six months old, the family moved to a farm 7 miles southeast of LaHarpe, KS. Read More	October 27, 2008 - Iola, KS Millard B. Cress, 96, of Humboldt, Kansas, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008, at Arrowood Lane residential care facility in Humboldt. He was born Oct. 21, 1912, in Galesburg, Kansas, to Johnnie A. and Della M. (Baker) Cress. When he was six months old, the family moved to a farm 7 miles southeast of LaHarpe, KS. In 1920, they settled on a farm northwest of Humboldt. He was graduated from Humboldt High School in 1930. On May 28, 1933, he was married to Fern E. Tomlinson at the home of her parents southeast of Humboldt, Kansas. They made their home around Humboldt all of their lives. He farmed, raised beef cattle and traded and hauled cattle and horses before his retirement. The couple liked to camp and spent 16 winters in Texas. He was a member of Humboldt United Methodist Church and had served for 15 years on the board of directors of Humboldt Co-op and Rural Electric Association and 28 years on the Production Credit Board including 19 years as president. He is survived by his wife of the home; a son, Maynard and wife, Jeanice, Humboldt, KS; a son-in-law, Coy Allen and wife, Jane, Wichita, KS; two grandchildren, Karl Allen and wife, Jill, Humboldt, KS, and Brenda Hicks and husband, Ross, Winfield, KS; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Harlan and wife, Nieta, Humboldt, KS; a cousin, Don Cress and wife, Doris, Council Grove, KS; and 25 nieces and nephews. A daughter, Gayla Jo Allen; two brothers, William Ross and Johnnie Allen; a sister, Audrey Stinson; and two half sisters, Ruby Havlovitz and Nelle Wyman, died earlier. Funeral services will be at Humboldt United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in DeWitt Cemetery west of Humboldt, Kansas. Memorials to Southern Care Hospice, Arrowood Lane residential care facility, or Humboldt United Methodist Church may be left at the funeral home. Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapels in Iola, Kansas, is in charge of arrangements.
