Description	:	Funeral Held Monday for Minnie Saunders Funeral services for Mrs. Minnie Saunders, who passed away Saturday at an Ames, Ia. hospital, were conducted Tuesday morning at Hengstler's Chapel with the Rev. Gordon Jensen, pastor of the Congregational-Baptist Church, officiating. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were E.C. Clare, Ivan Johnson, W.K. Lane, Andrew Vogt, Ralph Cornish and Henry Ehrenberg. Funeral services were also held at Ames. Minnie Bruns, eldest daughter of Frederick and Anna Bruns, was born at Niobrara Oct. 9, 1871 and passed away in Ames, Ia. on March 25 at the age of 87 . She spent her childhood in Niobrara and grew up in that part of Knox County. She was employed at the U.S. Government Indian school at Santee and later at the Episcopal Mission in Springfield, S.D. In February 1894 she was married to William H. Saunders, hardware merchant at Bazile Mills. Four children were born to this marriage; Sarah (Joseph) Elwell of Ames, Ia., Fred B of Ellman Springs, Ark., William H., who died in the service during WWII and Everett B. of Bay City, Mich. In 1908 the family moved to Winnetoon. Mr. Saunders died during the influenza epidemic in April 1919. Mrs. Saunders then moved to University Place, near Lincoln and lived there until 1923. The past 15 years she had lived with her daughter at Ames. Survivors besides her three children, are four grandchildren; one great grandson and two sisters, Mrs. Anna Caulkins of Weatherford, Okla. and Helen Henninger of Inglewood, Calif. ...The Creighton News 20 March 1958 Minnie was the daughter of Fritz and Anna Kuntz Bruns. She had three sisters, Anna, Adelia and Helen. Another sibling died young. Her father, who came from Hanover, Germany, was one of the early settlers of the county. He had an Indian trading post at Niobrara. Later, he was prominent in the county government. Minnie's mother, Anna, was a native of Waldorf, near Breslau, Prussia.
