Description	:	William H. Saunders, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Saunders, was born at Stillwater, New York, Oct. 8, 1867 and with his parents moved to S. Dak., when 4 years old where the family resided for a few months or until their home on the homestead could be built at Bazile Mills where they moved in the spring of 1872. On Feb. 8, 1899 he was married to Miss Minnie Bruns of Niobrara and passed away at the Collegeview Sanitorium in Lincoln where he had been taken for medical treatment. Saunders, was born at Stillwater, New York, Oct. 8, 1867 and with his parents moved to S. On Feb. 8, 1899 he was married to Miss Minnie Bruns of Niobrara and passed away at the Collegeview Sanitorium in Lincoln where he had been taken for medical treatment. He had been ailing for several weeks with complications which were supposed to have resulted from a severe cold which compelled him to go to bed but upon examination it was found his ailments were caused from liver and kidney troubles. Everything within the power of medical aid and human hands were done; but it was the final call. When he left his home far the hospital in Lincoln accompanied by his wife and brother-in-law, we waited for good news and hoped and wished for a speedy recovery and watched for news from the sick room, until Saturday, April 12, 1919 the news flashed over with "Wm H. Saunders is no more". It was indeed a sad message for those who knew him, respected and loved him. About 40 years ago his father engaged in the hardware business at Bazile Mills which business he successfully conducted until his death. His son being his constant helper all during his years in the Hardware Store and when Wm. H. Saunders was still a young man his father passed away and the business of the Hardware Store was taken full charge of by the son who conducted its business successfully until about 13 years ago when he moved to Winnetoon and engaged in the hardware business. The old firm at Bazile Mills being taken charge of by his brother-in-law, Asa P. Cave. Wm. H. Saunders was a man of a strong character and upright manhood, a good scholar, possessed of a wonderful memory, often times the old settlers and friends would consult him in regard to incidents and happenings of early days for he never forget dates and from his father who was numbered with the earliest settlers of Knox county the son gained a splendid knowledge of early days in the county and the state which never passed from his memory and you could always rest assured that Wm H. Saunders educational ability combined with his memory of past and present topics of history were always accurate to the day. The years spent in the hardware business at Bazile Mills and at Winnetoon had given him a wide acquaintance and his acquaintances were his friends. He left his loved ones and friends in the full strength of his manhood. He will be missed but the world is better because he lived. He was a man among men, highly respected, energetic, honest and faithful to his trusts and painstaking and courteous as well as generous with those in whom he came in contact. He leaves to mourn his kind and loving wife, daughter, Miss Sarah Saunders, three sons, Fred, Wm H. Jr. and Everette, his aged mother, Mrs. Martha Saunders, three sisters, Mrs. Caroline B. Kannow of Mason City, Neb.; Mrs. Lydia F. Gay of Belle Fourche, S.D.; Mrs. Louise M. Cave of Bazile Mills, two brothers, George and Willard dying in infancy. He also leaves many other relatives and hosts of friends. Funeral services were held at the family home in Winnetoon, Wednesday, April 16, 1919, conducted by Re. Crickmer, pastor of the Niobrara Episcopal church. In the passing away of Wm. H.
