She went to school in Cedar Rapids and grew up near Wolbach. She taught at the Olive School near Wolbach. She married George Berney on Oct 4, 1905, in Nance County. They farmed north of Wolbach until the death of Mr. Berney in 1926. Mrs. Berney continued to live on the farm until moving into Wolbach during the 1940s. She moved to the Greeley Care Home in 1983. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Albert (Marjory) Klein of Wolbach; two sons, Marvel of Alhambra, Calif. and Floyd of Lake Havasu City, Ariz; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Turner of Santa Monica, Calif, and Mrs. Hazel Wagner of Wolbach; a brother, Clyde Messner of Glendale, Calif; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 22 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband, a son and three brothers.
